Wego, the Middle East and North Africa’s online travel marketplace, has teamed up with the Austrian National Tourist Office to bring more GCC visitors to the country this summer.

Travelers from countries with a low incidence rate (such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar), that can either show proof of negative PCR test infection or a proof of full vaccination starting 15th day after their second dose, can visit the county without the need to self-isolate. Travelers from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait, for example, can now enter Austria without having to self-isolate if they are fully vaccinated.

The collaborative project will raise Austria’s profile as a safe holiday destination with one of the most tranquil and beautiful landscapes in the world. It will also increase the number of people talking about the country, resulting in more interest and bookings.

Austria will be marketed across all Wego channels, including the website and mobile app. This will encompass targeted emails to Wego’s large MENA user base, as well as articles, push alerts, and social media ads promoting Austria as a safe and must-visit summer destination.

“We’re excited to expand our partnerships to one of the most beautiful European countries. Located in the heart of Europe and nestled between the Danube and the Alps, Austria is a must go to country for every traveler. GCC travelers have been eagerly waiting to visit Austria. Through such partnerships, we aim to drive more travelers to the country through promoting it to our large user base in the MENA region. We look forward to forging a long-lasting relationship with The Austrian National Tourist Office,” Said Wego’s Managing Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and India, Mamoun Hmedan.

By keeping COVID-19 numbers low and enforcing stronger measures to stop the virus from spreading, the country provides a safe environment for its guests. Vaccinated guests must be fully vaccinated or provide a negative PCR test to access restaurants and hotels starting August 15th.

Director of the Austrian National Tourist Office Middle East, Robert Gröblacher, said: “In 2019, almost half a million visitors from the GCC created about 1.4 million bed nights in Austria. In 2020, there was almost no touristic activity from the GCC due to the Covid-19 situation. We can see a vast interest in visiting our country again since the borders for travelers from the region opened again on the 1st of July 2021.”

Whether it’s in the water or the mountains, every traveller in Austria is in for a thrilling journey. Hiking, wreck diving, white-water swimming, river surfing, cycling, and biking are just a few of the indoor and outdoor activities available this summer. Don’t forget to sample the many cuisines, relax in the tranquil surroundings, and learn about the history of this fascinating country.
