The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has released new modules for its Abu Dhabi Specialists E-learning Program. As part of DCT Abu Dhabi’s reaction to the COVID-19 issue, the Program was launched in May 2020. It was created to teach travel industry professionals, such as front-line employees, product managers, tour operators, travel agencies, and home-based agents, how to effectively advertise Abu Dhabi.

The e-learning Program has been successfully implemented in 17 different countries and seven different languages. So far, 13,670 people have applied for the course, and over 7,000 have graduated as ‘Abu Dhabi Specialists.’

“We are really heartened by the strong support from the global travel trade for this programme and, as such, we will be launching additional learning modules and expanding into new markets in Switzerland and Israel,” said Ali Hassan Al Shaiba, DCT Abu Dhabi’s Executive Director of Marketing and Tourism.

“Despite the last year being an extremely challenging period for the tourism sector, through this innovative programme we have still been able to connect with travel professionals around the world and help them understand why Abu Dhabi is such an extraordinary destination. As we open up to travellers from across the world once again, we are confident the Programme has increased awareness of Abu Dhabi’s amazing offerings, which in turn will lead to increased sales activity and lengths of stay for visitors.”

DCT Abu Dhabi’s investment in training and upskilling demonstrates its commitment to assisting the travel trade in key source markets in providing quality advice and better service to customers considering Abu Dhabi as a travel destination.

The programme, which is part of DCT Abu Dhabi’s Travel Trade Marketing Plan, ensures that travel specialists have the necessary knowledge and tools to sell. Aside from training, the specialists receive regular communications about the destination, invitations to events, and access to marketing toolkits.

The expanded programme will include three new modules: Expo 2020 Dubai, Abu Dhabi as a Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination, and Abu Dhabi’s Culture assets and programmes to provide more knowledge to agents.

The new modules will be gradually rolled out in different markets and languages, and upon completion, the Abu Dhabi specialists will be awarded the ‘advanced’ certification.
