Qantas Cancels Nearly All International Routes Till October

Till late October, Australian airline Qantas has canceled all its international flights, except those to New Zealand. The information comes after the Australian government has closed its borders till 2021, in order to control the spread of COVID-19.

Impact of restrictions on Qantas airline

The airline and its subsidiary Jetstar are now encouraging domestic flights until the Australian government eases restrictions. Australian airline Qantas transported 64,000 passengers this week. As some travel restrictions have been eased, Qantas said it will increase its domestic flights by 15 percent of the pre coronavirus level.

Meantime, the airline said it is ready to fly on international routes as the company is waiting for the government to ease the restrictions. “Should travel between Australia and other countries open up and demand returns, we can add more flights back into our schedule,” a statement said.

In the past, Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham said that “open tourist-related travel in or out of Australia… remains quite some distance off”, and admitted that – with the exception of some countries international tourism would probably remain banned till 2021.
