SpiceJet, Emirates Sign A Codeshare Agreement And Interline Agreement

SpiceJet and Emirates have just signed a codeshare agreement that will allow passengers of Dubai-based airlines to book tickets on the Indian budget carrier using Emirates ticketing system from early 2020.

While passengers of Emirates will be able to access the SpiceJet network first from early 2020, the Indian carrier’s passengers travelling from India to Dubai will also be able to access Emirates expansive network later, opening up multiple international connections for them. In this first phase of the interline agreement, customers can start booking flights from 25 November, for travel starting 15 December 2019.

With access to 172 onwards domestic routes in India as part of the SpiceJet network, popular destinations such as Goa, Dehradun, Dharamshala, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Guwahati, Pondicherry, Port Blair, Shiridi, Tirupati, Udaipur and Varanasi are all now accessible to Emirates passengers.

What the future holds for SpiceJet and Emirates partnership:

However, with the codeshare agreement subjected to government approvals, as issued by the UAE national carrier, Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Cheif Commercial Officer said “ Emirates has historically shared a close and collaborative bond with India. In the last decade, we have flown more than 50 million customers on our Indian routes”.

“Our partnership will help us leverage SpiceJet’s extensive route network so that our customers who are visiting friends and family can fly closer to their hometowns, while tourists can more easily access many of the incredible sights and sounds India has to offer”.

Further adding on that this opportunity will allow for a significant and positive impact on business in both the countries and globally, strengthening the already established partnership among Emirates and SpiceJet in the upcoming months. SpiceJet operates 630 average flights on a daily basis to 64 destinations, including 54 domestic and 10 international ones, the codeshare agreement follows the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by both the airlines in April 2019.

SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Singh concluded that the partnership with Emirates “will offer a seamless travel experience and the widest possible travel options to our passengers travelling to and from Europe, America, Africa and the Middle East”, rejoicing in the partnership and expressing that such a move will strengthen the position of the Indian carrier in the region, complementing their intent for international expansion.
