Mauritius Is Now The First Country To Offer Free Vaccines To Long-Term Visa Holders

The government in Mauritius has increased the scale of its COVID-19 vaccination programme. The improved programme now includes all citizens, residents and long-term international visitors over the age of 18. Further, all visitors who hold premium visa and residents of Mauritius holding a work permit, residence permit or occupational permit are eligible to receive free vaccinations.

It is the only country offering long-term visitors free visas

With this move, the nation has become the only country in the world that offers long-term visitors visas free of charge and a free Covid-19 vaccine to holders of these visas. This new vaccination programme is part of the nation’s campaign to keep Mauritius Covid-19-secure. Additionally, it will also facilitate the full reopening of international borders once herd immunity is reached. The nation is using the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority is encouraging everyone eligible to accept the offer and is working towards promoting take-up.
