Karnataka’s Kalaburagi Airport To Begin Operations Soon To Bengaluru

Karnataka Cheif Minister Yediyurappa to inaugurate the newly built Kalaburagi airport on November 22. Star Air (owned by Ghadawat Enterprises Private Limited) recently announcing flights on the Bengaluru-Kalaburagi route thrice a week, the flight is expected to depart Bengaluru Airport (BLR ) 12:22 pm on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, arriving Kalaburagi (GRB) at 13:25 pm. 

North-east Karnataka is set to have air connectivity to Bengaluru and rest of India under the Modi government’s affordable UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik)- Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). Kalaburgi Airport to act as a gateway for tourist destinations to North-east Karnataka, spots including Buddha Vihar, Sharana Basaveshwara Temple, Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah and Gulbarga Fort.  

The airport has been built by the Karnataka State Public Works Department (PW D), with the Airports Authority Of India (AAI) operating the same. Currently, Star Air airline mainly operates lights on UDAN routes and provides services to seven Indian cities like Delhi-NCR (Hindon), Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Tirupati, Hubballi, and Belagavi. The Airport is well-equipped with all the vital and advanced amenities that are necessary for a world-class travel experience and is expected to bring in an influx of capital to the backward region. 

With a development cost of INR 175.57 crores, the airport is spread across 740 acres, Kalaburagi Airport is formally launching operations soon. President of the Hyderabad-Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Amarnath Patil is resilient about the impact that full-fledged operations at the Kalaburagi Airport will have on the local economy. He says “investments will soar in the region. Airlines must also try to operate flights in the morning and evening so that more people in the region choose to travel by air”. 

All passenger set to fly on the Star Air’s 50-seater advanced aircraft which have been manufactured by Embraer having 2 jet engines powered by Rolls Royce, Karnataka CM Yediyurappa is expected to inaugurate the new airport and return back to Bangalore in the same flight.
