AAI To Complete Hollongi Airport In Arunachal Pradesh By Nov 2022

According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, the greenfield airport Hollongi will be completed by November 2022. This airport is near Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar.

The AAI had undertaken an INR 650 crore project to develop the airport

15 km from Itanagar, the Hollongi airport will be the third airport in Arunachal Pradesh. The other two airports are Pasighat airport in East Siang district and Tezu airport in Lohit district.

The officials added that the airport will have an area of 4,100 sq meters. During peak hours, the new domestic building will have a capacity of 200 passengers per day.

The AAI release stated, “Equipped with eight check-in counters, the terminal building would have all modern passenger facilities with energy-efficient provisions. The terminal building would also be equipped with a rainwater harvesting system and a sustainable landscape.”

The release further mentioned, “Moving away from the strict geometry of straight lines and angles, the roof form is organic and establishes an instant connection with the viewer. The building interior is designed to emanate a sense of calm to the passengers. Through free-flowing spaces, a hidden service core, and a glass facade that links the eye to the scenic beauty of the Himalayan foothills, the calmness will be achieved.”

Itanagar has no airport nearby. The closest airport is the Lilabari airport in Assam which is at a distance of 80 km. To reach this airport by road, it takes around three hours.

Hence, this new airport will connect the capital city and will boost the aspirations of the local community. The airport will also act as a primary gateway to the border state.
