Novotel’s recent collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is a significant step forward in their commitment to environmental responsibility, with a special emphasis on ocean conservation. The three-year collaboration intends to positively impact Novotel’s 580 hotels worldwide by incorporating science-based action and conservation projects into their operations.

This partnership is consistent with Novotel’s long-standing commitment to balance, both in their business model and in improving their guests’ work-life experiences. By focusing on the ocean, the company hopes to help preserve and restore this key environment, which plays an important role in climate regulation and biodiversity.

Novotel’s action plan, based on United Nations principles, includes actions to minimize marine pollution, combat overfishing, and improve scientific understanding of ocean health. Novotel’s Positive Impact Plan has four main pillars: reducing plastic and carbon footprints, making sustainable food choices, increasing education and understanding about ocean conservation, and contributing to research and innovation.

The relationship with WWF has four primary goals: developing sustainable seafood regulations, promoting knowledge about ocean importance among visitors and employees, lobbying for ocean preservation, and supporting marine species through specialized projects.

WWF’s role includes offering technical knowledge, conducting site visits, and developing a dedicated steering committee to monitor Novotel’s performance. In addition, Novotel will support WWF conservation projects around the world, including as safeguarding marine environments, eliminating marine garbage, and tracking sea turtle populations.

This collaboration underlines Accor’s overall commitment to sustainability, as seen by prior initiatives such as supporting renewable energy projects and eliminating single-use plastics throughout its properties. By collaborating with WWF and embracing environmental stewardship, Novotel sets a precedent for the hospitality industry and helps to worldwide efforts toward a more sustainable future.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR) has found that Türkiye’s Travel & Tourism sector smashed all records last year, setting new benchmarks in four important parameters.

In 2023, the industry contributed TRY 3.11 trillion to the economy, or 12% of total GDP. This represents about a 30% gain above the last peak in 2019.

The sector also supported more than 3.2 million jobs, accounting for one in every ten jobs in the country and more than 18% over the 2019 high point.

International and domestic visitor expenditure also beat prior records, totaling TRY 1.68 trillion and TRY 761.3 billion, respectively. International tourist expenditure exceeded its 2019 record by about 36%, while domestic visitor spending broke its 2018 record by nearly 24%.

Looking ahead

The sector is expected to continue smashing records in 2024, with GDP contribution reaching about 12.5% of the country’s economy. Travel and tourism-related jobs are expected to exceed 3.3 million, and international and domestic visitor spending is expected to establish new milestones.

According to WTTC’s most recent research, expenditure from international visitors could exceed TRY 1.7 trillion next year, while spending from domestic visitors could approach TRY 799 billion.

In order to continue growing its critical Travel & Tourism sector, Türkiye’s government is considering introducing nomad visas, which would increase the possibilities for longer stays and thereby tourist spending.

Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, stated, “As the world’s fifth most popular destination, Travel & Tourism in Türkiye is more than just a sector, it’s an integral part of the nation’s economy, fuelling growth, investment, and new jobs. We congratulate the national government’s efforts to place Travel & Tourism at the heart of decision-making, recognising its critical role in the country’s economy.”

What will the following decade look like?

The prediction for the next ten years predicts a decade of growth. By 2034, the sector is estimated to contribute more than TRY 4 trillion to the GDP per year, while employment is likely to reach about 3.75 million.

The next decade promises to be a period of exceptional growth and transformation for Türkiye’s travel and tourism industry.

This Hajj season, Emirates is prepared to service a huge number of pilgrims traveling from the airline’s global network via Dubai to Jeddah and Medina to complete the once-in-a-lifetime Muslim pilgrimage. Emirates has worked hard at every stage of the journey to offer a comfortable experience for pilgrims traveling to Makkah for this important trip, both in the air and on ground.

Additional flights to Jeddah and Medina.

Emirates has scheduled 10 additional flights to bring pilgrims to Jeddah and Medina between June 7 and 10, as well as June 21 and 26. These flights were deliberately timed to meet the airline schedules of key markets for Hajj, including Indonesia, Thailand, Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritius, South Africa, Senegal, and Pakistan.

The additional flights run alongside Emirates’ scheduled services to the two Saudi gateways, giving thousands of passengers from across the airline’s worldwide network more alternatives for carrying out one of Islam’s most important pillars. To satisfy increased demand for Eid al-Adha in mid-June, the airline has added 19 flights to places such as Amman, Dammam, Kuwait, and Beirut, among others.

The airport journey was seamless throughout.

Emirates has extended its onboard hospitality to the ground with a meticulously planned airport experience, from landing at Dubai International to stopping in the city and connecting to Jeddah and Medina.

Emirates’ specialist teams will help pilgrims through their airport trip to guarantee a smooth transition to their onward flights. Airport Service teams are responsible for receiving, greeting, and accompanying all pilgrims from arrival to departure. Travellers are greeted at the arrival gate by dedicated Emirates Airport Service personnel holding signs with special greetings for pilgrims, and are escorted all the way to the connection desk for their onward journey, or to the Emirates Hotel Desk to pick up their hotel vouchers, so they can be quickly transferred on Emirates’ buses to their hotels for a short break before proceeding to their final destination. Pilgrims’ bags will be labeled with special Emirates ‘Hajj’ baggage tags.

Special presents have also been arranged for the official UAE Hajj flight, which is scheduled to depart from Dubai on June 11.

A Hajj-focused aboard experience.

Onboard, the airline has made additional provisions to accommodate people performing ablutions, including unscented towels and extra blankets. Special PAs notify passengers when they have entered Al Miqat zones (sanctuaries) and signify the change of Ihram robes. Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system, ice, includes a special movie that covers the Hajj requirements as well as advice regarding safety during the trip. Travelers may also choose to listen to the Holy Quran channel or read verses on ice to continue their introspection and devotion. Passengers may check in up to 5 litres of holy water (Zamzam) upon return, which will be stored in designated parts of the cargo hold.

Pilgrims traveling on Emirates’ special aircraft are advised to visit the Emirates website to learn about the entire Hajj experience, from the airport to onboard. Special flights are provided to those with a valid Hajj visa. Pilgrims must also be under the age of 65 and have a valid vaccination certificate for a vaccine approved by the Saudi Ministry of Health. Emirates, in collaboration with Dubai International and several stakeholders throughout the Dubai travel ecosystem, has worked tirelessly to provide a seamless Hajj experience for pilgrims.

Vietnam Airlines First Vietnamese Carrier to Join IATA Co2 Connect

0

Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam’s national carrier, has officially joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) CO2 Connect project to analyze CO2 emissions.

Vietnam Airlines inked a partnership agreement to participate in CO2 Connect at the IATA AGM in Dubai, becoming the first Vietnamese airline to do so. Under the agreement, Vietnam Airlines will provide operational data to IATA’s CO2 Connect emissions calculator, which will compute CO2 emissions per passenger for each route and aircraft type.

The worldwide aviation industry’s key aims are to reduce CO2 emissions and promote sustainable development. However, CO2 emissions have been measured and reported inconsistently because to the various methodology employed by different airlines.

To address this, IATA launched the CO2 Connect project, which aims to provide a uniform platform for airlines to calculate CO2 emissions consistently and aid airlines and customers in making ecologically responsible decisions. The project employs the standard industry RP-1726 approach, which is well-known for its correctness and compatibility with the majority of industry standards.

Several other major airlines have joined the project, including American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, and Qatar Airways.

By joining in CO2 Connect, Vietnam Airlines demonstrates its commitment to sustainable development, helping to achieve the target of net-zero emissions by 2050, which Vietnam pledged at the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (COP26).

On May 27, Vietnam Airlines became the first Vietnamese airline to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for a commercial flight. The airline intends to work with Con Dao to accomplish the “sustainable flight route” project, which will include environmental preservation activities and plastic trash reduction to protect landscapes and habitats.
