Travelport has introduced a feature on its Travelport+ platform that provides more accurate carbon dioxide (CO2) emission estimates for flights.

The Travel Impact Model (TIM) developed by Google in collaboration with the Travalyst coalition is used for these estimates. It is the first stage in a larger initiative by Travelport to assist agents, travel managers, and travelers in making eco-friendly travel decisions.

The change addresses inconsistencies in the presentation of carbon emissions data across various booking channels. Travelport intends to increase transparency and consistency by implementing a publicly accessible data framework that considers carbon emissions, environmental certifications, and sustainability initiatives when displaying travel options.

Retailers on Travelport can now readily compare CO2 estimates per flight and passenger, taking into account variables such as aircraft type and distance, enabling them to make environmentally responsible decisions. These enhancements are accessible through Smartpoint, Trip Quote, and the Travelport API Suite.
