The Rockley debuted on March 27 on Barbados’ South Coast, honoring the local spirit with a trendy new hotel experience in Rockley Beach, which is known for its lively clubs, iconic restaurants, and authentic island experiences.

The Rockley, formerly known as the South Beach Hotel, has a fun new design following a major refurbishment and rebranding. The resort is located just steps from Rockley Beach’s pristine sand and gorgeous ocean, and rates begin at £200 per night.

Ocean Hotels CEO Patricia Affonso-Dass, said, “We’ve reimagined The Rockley as an experiential, culture-rich hotel connecting our guests with the vibrant surrounding community. From the cuisine to art and music, we welcome guests and locals to join us as we showcase and celebrate the very best of Barbados’ eclectic South Coast.”

Michelle Leotaud of Apple & Iron, a Barbados-based design studio, produced the interiors for the hotel’s adjoining five-star sister property, the O2 Beach Club & Spa. The Rockley’s rooms are decorated with colorful local elements such as Bajan sayings on throw pillows, the island’s renowned Bus Stop sign, and locally sourced items that highlight Baja culture. Guests can unwind in style in junior suites with kitchenettes or spacious, 700-square-foot one-bedroom apartments with complete kitchens and separate living rooms.

To create a true sense of place, the design infuses the island’s lively culture into its social spaces, resulting in a dynamic hub for mingling between visitors and residents. The hotel’s new outside covered bar area creates a fashionable beach club feel with daily and nightly entertainment. The trendy air-conditioned inside dining room, which features a hand-painted black and white mural of some of Barbados’ most distinctive goods and symbols, such as sheep, dominoes, chickens, and more, is excellent for guests and distant workers looking for a quick bite or coffee. The Rockley has also refurbished its lobby, pool deck, and social areas, including a fully equipped fitness and games room.

To further integrate guests into the local community, the hotel offers a revolutionary “Dine and Sign” service, which allows guests to visit partner restaurants in the neighbourhood and effortlessly charge their meal to their room, exactly as if they were dining at the hotel. Engaging with the local community is important to The Rockley experience, and the hotel’s staff can provide insider ideas for seeing the best of the South Coast.

In the lobby, a new “Art for the People” gallery will include changing installations by local artists. Some of the artwork includes a piece on the central column with all the points on a compass signifying that the voyage to Barbados begins at The Rockley, as well as a clock echoing the hotel’s tagline “It’s always the right time at The Rockley”.
