The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group is happy to announce Mr Leslie Thng’s appointment to Executive Vice President, beginning July 1, 2024.

Mr Thng, 50, remains CEO of Scoot, SIA’s low-cost carrier unit. He will continue to report to SIA CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong and the Board of Budget Aviation Holdings, Scoot’s parent firm.

Mr Thng joined Singapore Airlines in 1999 and previously worked as the airline’s Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing. He was as CEO of Vistara, SIA’s Indian joint venture with Tata Sons, from October 2017 until December 2021. Prior to that, he was Scoot’s Chief Commercial Officer (May 2016–October 2017) and the CEO of SIA’s former regional airline SilkAir (August 2012–May 2016).

Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines, stated, “As an SIA Group veteran, Leslie has a wealth of experience from key positions in Singapore and other important markets of Singapore Airlines, as well as his leadership roles with Scoot and Vistara. His promotion bolsters our senior management team and allows him to make a deeper contribution to the future success of the SIA Group.”

Scoot has grown significantly under Mr Thng’s leadership, with capacity, passenger traffic, and load factors surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 2024. This achievement cemented its status as a low-cost carrier leader, earning it the Value Airline of the Year title at the 2024 Air Transport World Airline Industry Achievement Awards and the Skytrax World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline award in 2023.

Mr Thng oversaw Vistara’s international flight launch and the integration of the Boeing 787-9 widebody aircraft into its fleet, firmly establishing the airline as India’s chosen full-service carrier.
