Jetstar Airways has announced that it will restart direct seasonal flights between Cairns and Newcastle from June 24 to October 28, 2023, bringing amazing low fares back to the popular route. The flights will be operated by an Airbus A320 and will depart three times each week, carrying about 6,000 passengers per month. This will lead to a huge boost to tourism in both towns.

This seasonal route, which launched in collaboration with Newcastle Airport and Cairns Airport in June 2021, will relaunch in response to high demand.

Chief Customer Officer of Jetstar, Alan McIntyre, stated that Jetstar will be the only carrier to offer direct flights between the two destinations. He stated that Jetstar experienced significant demand in both directions when the route was initially introduced in 2021, and the airline anticipates that it will be more popular than ever in 2023, with one-way flights starting at $119.

“We extend our thanks to Cairns and Newcastle airports for their continued support of these flights,”  said Alan McIntyre.

Richard Barker, the chief executive officer of Cairns Airport, remarked that the direct services offered Queensland and New South Wales travelers enticing vacation options.

The climate in Far North Queensland is particularly pleasant throughout the winter. These flights make it easier than ever before for southern dwellers to unwind and rejuvenate on a tropical vacation. This service also provides FNQ residents with a smooth access to the NSW Hunter Valley and its highly acclaimed premier wine districts.

Dr. Peter Cock, CEO of Newcastle Airport, also applauded the news saying,  “We are happy to work with Jetstar and Cairns Airport for a third season of this wildly popular direct service.” He added that people in their region adore Tropical North Queensland, and Cairns has been one of our most popular tourist destinations over the past two years.
