Cyprus bans entry for travelers who have been to India recently. This applies if they have been to or passed through the country in the previous two weeks of their travel. Cyprus is eager to curb the spread of the Delta variant or the B.1.617 which is the new deadly Covid-19 variant. The government has also said that this ban will not apply to its citizens and foreign nationals who are permanent residents.
Cyprus bans entry for travelers who have been to India recently, but those citizens or foreign nationals who want to enter the country must take a PCR test 72 hours before boarding their flight. Once they land in Cyprus, they will have to go through a mandatory 10-day quarantine at facilities designated by the government, for which the government will bear the costs.
The UK variant was the most widespread variant in the country, but the government has now confirmed that the Delta or B.1.617 variant is making its presence felt.
In terms of vaccination status, the country is doing well. It has fully vaccinated almost 40% of its population. The country currently has 73,311 active Covid-19 cases and its daily cases have dropped from an average of 650 cases during April 2021 to a current average infection rate of 55 cases per day, which means the cases are decreasing in the country. This is due to the increased vaccination rates. The country has opened up, and is allowing free entry for travelers from countries like Poland and Romania, but is also imposing restrictions and bans for travelers from countries such as India where cases are much higher. All this is being done to curb the spread of the virus in the country.
