American continues to improve the accessibility and usability of its high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi, whether customers are connecting for business or browsing the internet. Customers can expect to make the most of their time aboard by introducing a new option for AAdvantage® members to use their miles and constantly upgrading the in-flight internet and entertainment experience.

AAdvantage® members will soon be able to use their miles to pay for Wi-Fi on board. In the coming weeks, American will begin to roll out this new mile redemption feature on a few select planes. By the summer travel season, all of the airline’s Viasat-equipped narrowbody planes will allow passengers to unlock Wi-Fi in return for miles. With this innovation to help loyalty go even further, American continues to deliver on its promise that traveling is better as an AAdvantage® member.

Bringing Wi-Fi connectivity to new heights

Once connected, passengers may enjoy Wi-Fi for even longer thanks to gate-to-gate connectivity on most mainline flights, which allows them to stay connected from the moment they find their seat until they deplane. Connectivity will only improve from here. Customers looking for free Wi-Fi can use ad-sponsored Wi-Fi on all of American’s Viasat domestic narrowbody planes.

All Wi-Fi connectivity advancements will be enabled by a new design for the Wi-Fi portal used by customers in flight, which will be released throughout the year. The new Wi-Fi portal design will improve the customer experience by making Wi-Fi offers more available to customers, with a user-friendly Wi-Fi purchasing procedure that requires fewer clicks and effective direct-to-customer communication via smart pop-up messages. The portal will also make it easier to explore content with a sleeker design, giving an aesthetically pleasant experience that promotes American’s Wi-Fi, entertainment, and partner offers all on one page.

This summer, American and Intelsat will begin installing high-speed Wi-Fi on almost 500 dual-class regional aircraft, providing even more customers with a consistent and connected inflight experience.

Staying entertained while on board

American is the first airline to provide streaming capability on 100% of its mainline fleet, allowing customers to watch video material from their preferred streaming provider. Customers can continue to access one of 1,500 pieces of complimentary in-flight entertainment content that are updated on a regular basis.
