The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce the launch of ‘Thailand – Amazing Workation’ by the Thailand Film Office under the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, as the latest chapter in Thailand’s ongoing efforts to remain one of the world’s top filming destinations.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), stated, “Thailand is already a favourite filming location for foreign TV and film makers, who applaud the kingdom’s diverse geographical characteristics, historical sites, natural beauty, fascinating culture, and filmmaking services and government support. The latest Amazing Workation initiative will certainly help further strengthen this appeal.”

The ‘Amazing Workation’ initiative comprises three fundamentals of filmmaking: Great Incentives, Great Services, and Great Relaxation.

The ‘Great Incentives’ represent the highest levels of value beyond the ‘Fast Cash,’ ‘Speedy Pay (Rebate),’ and ‘Truly Transparent’ concepts. The maximum rebate of up to 20% for foreign film production projects investing 50 million Baht per project will be increased to 150 million Baht. From 2 August 2023 to 1 August 2028, foreign film actors filming in Thailand will receive a five-year exemption from income tax.

The ‘Great Services’ refers to the world-class services, facilities, and hospitality offered to foreign filmmakers in Thailand, whereas the ‘Great Relaxation’ refers to the hospitable atmosphere, distinctive culture, and wonderful leisure activities that can be experienced while filming in Thailand.

In the first four months of 2023, from January to April, 171 foreign films were shot in Thailand, generating 1.29 billion Baht in revenue. This is evidence of Thailand’s well-deserved popularity as a filming destination for filmmakers from around the world. These figures represent an increase of 18 films and 118 million Thai Baht in comparison to the same period in 2022.

In April of 2023, 33 films were produced, grossing a total of 169 million Thai Baht. March 2023 saw 60 film productions that earned 488 million Baht, February 2023 saw 43 film productions that earned 370.99 million Baht, and January 2023 saw 35 film productions that earned 270 million Baht.

Thailand was designated as the location for 348 foreign film productions in 2022, generating nearly 6.4 billion Baht in revenue.

The third season of ‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip’ reality TV series was filmed in Phuket and premiered on the Peacock streaming service on March 23, 2023. The final two episodes of season 27 of ABC’s ‘The Bachelor’ series were filmed in Krabi and aired on March 20 and 27.

In February 2023, the adventure comedy film ‘Ostrov’ (The Island), which was almost exclusively filmed in Phuket and Krabi, was released in European theatres.
