The winners of the World Travel Awards’ World categories for 2021 have been announced. The Maldives, which won ‘World’s Leading Destination’ for the second time, cemented its status as the ultimate secluded sanctuary. Madeira was named ‘World’s Leading Island Destination,’ and The Algarve was awarded ‘World’s Leading Beach Destination,’ respectively. The Greek Ministry of Tourism/GNTO was crowned the “World’s Leading Tourist Board,” and Armenia was named the “World’s Leading Heritage Destination.”
Dubai, which is now in the spotlight as the host of Expo 2020, was named the ‘World’s Leading Business Travel Destination,’ with the Dubai World Trade Centre taking home the title of ‘World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre.’ The Palm Jumeirah – Nakheel was named ‘World’s Leading Tourism Development Project,’ while Mina Rashid was named ‘World’s Leading Cruise Port.’
Both Moscow and Saint Petersburg received top honours, recognising Russia’s imperial glory. ‘World’s Leading City Break Destination’ and ‘World’s Leading Heritage City Destination’ went to Moscow, while ‘World’s Leading Cultural City Destination’, ‘World’s Leading Cultural City Destination’, and ‘World’s Leading Marketing Campaign’ went to Saint Petersburg.
Machu Picchu, Peru’s historic citadel, was named ‘World’s Leading Tourist Attraction,’ as well as ‘World’s Leading Cultural Destination.’
In the hospitality industry, Armani Hotel Dubai beat off a tough field to win the title of ‘World’s Leading Hotel,’ while Sardinia’s Forte Village Resort won the title of ‘World’s Leading Resort.’ The idyllically secluded Amanpulo in the Philippines was voted ‘World’s Leading Dive Resort,’ whereas Amandari in Indonesia was crowned ‘World’s Leading Boutique All Suite Hotel.’ The Burj al Arab in Dubai was named the ‘World’s Leading Luxury All Suite Hotel,’ while the Four Seasons Resort Dubai near Jumeirah Beach was named the ‘World’s Leading Luxury Resort.’
The St. Regis Dubai, The Palm was named ‘World’s Leading New Hotel,’ whilst Raffles The Palm Dubai was named ‘World’s Leading New Resort,’ in the newcomer category.
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts was labelled the “World’s Leading Hotel Brand,” Sandals was named the “World’s Leading All-Inclusive Company,” Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts was titled “ the “World’s Leading Resort Brand,” and The Ascott Limited Hospitality was designated the “World’s Leading Serviced Apartment Brand.”
In the aviation industry, Emirates was crowned ‘World’s Leading Airline’ and ‘World’s Leading Airline – First Class,’ while Dubai International Airport was awarded ‘World’s Leading Airport.’ Singapore Airlines was voted ‘World’s Leading Airline – Economy Class,’ whereas Etihad Airways was named ‘World’s Leading Airline – Business Class.’ The ‘World’s Leading Airline Brand’ was awarded to Aeroflot – Russian Airlines, while the ‘World’s Leading Airline Alliance’ was given to Star Alliance.
The findings are the product of a year-long search for the best travel, tourist, and hospitality companies in the globe. Travel industry professionals and the general public cast votes, with the nominee receiving the most votes in each category being named the winner.
The World Travel Awards’ founder, Graham Cooke, says: “Our World winners represent the best in global travel and tourism and my congratulations to each of them. They are all playing starring roles in leading the global travel and tourism recovery.”
‘World’s Leading Cruise Destination,’ ‘World’s Leading Family Destination,’ and ‘World’s Leading Wedding Destination’ were all given to Jamaica.
Jetex was voted ‘World’s Leading FBO Brand’ and ‘World’s Leading Private Jet Travel Experience,’ with Jetex Singapore being named ‘World’s Leading FBO Terminal.’ Madrid (‘World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination’), Royal Caribbean International (‘World’s Leading Cruise Brand’), Atlantis, The Palm (‘World’s Leading Landmark Resort’), Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis The Palm, Dubai (‘World’s Leading Water Park’), and Royal Penthouse @ Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai (‘World’s Leading Hotel Penthouse’) are among the other winners.
