NEW DELHI ( October 3, 2019)
Visit California is partnering with the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the first-ever National Basketball Association games in India. It is being held Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai. The participating teams are the Sacramento Kings, under the leadership of the NBA’s first India-born majority owner and Mumbai native Vivek Ranadive, and the Indiana Pacers.
Visit California will leverage the star-studded two-day event to showcase all of the
options available for professional sports lovers in California, including attending games
and events at the acclaimed Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, home of the Kings.
Four professional basketball teams call California home though, the Golden State’s
sports scene goes far beyond basketball.
The state hosts a diverse line-up of world-class sporting events throughout the year
including the AT& T Pebble Beach PRO-AM, taken in annually by thousands of
spectators on three of the Monterey Peninsula’s premier golf courses. The BNP Paribas Open, played in Palm Springs, is the largest international tennis tournament outside of the four Grand Slams. The state has successfully hosted the Olympic Games three times, and Los Angeles is all set to host them again in 2028.
For motor racing enthusiasts, the prestigious NASCAR Cup Series (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) holds two races in California, and the IndyCar Series and NHRA Drag Racing Series hold multiple events every year.
A year-round sports destination, California has an unparalleled range of offerings – with
sports such as surfing, golf, tennis, football, baseball, soccer, skateboarding and more.
“California is a paradise for sports lovers, whether you want to watch the pros or get in
the game yourself,”
-Visit California President and CEO Caroline Beteta said.
“As home to the largest number of professional sports teams in the nation, we are thrilled to partner with the NBA on these exhibition games to bring a taste of the California home-
team spirit to Mumbai. We encourage Indian basketball fans to come to California to experience the thrill for themselves. Whether it’s professional basketball, baseball,
football or hockey – California truly has it all.”
To build excitement around the upcoming games, Visit California worked with celebrity
influencer Rannvijay Singha to create a content series showcasing some of the exciting
sporting activities in California, including an on-court session with Sacramento King’s
player Harry Giles.
