UNWTO Launches App To Ensure Secure Border Crossings

By partnering with Wanderlust World, the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) launched a new app in order to promote safe and seamless travel during this COVID-19 outbreak. The new ‘World Tourist Identification’ app has been developed to meet the needs of the travel and tourism sector in these unprecedented times. The app will make the process of crossing international borders significantly easier for travelers.

How will the app help the tourism sector?

As travel restrictions imposed due to coronavirus in many countries at the global level are easing, the United Nations’ specialized agency has promoted a secure restart of the sector. The resumption of the tourism sector should be managed carefully and responsibly. The first priority should be given to travelers’ health with the great use of technology.

Benefits of the new app
  • It will permit travelers to save the digital copies of their important documents together.
  • The identification of travelers will be easier, faster and safer.
  • It will also reduce the risk of fraud and identity theft.

“The restart of tourism brings opportunity for millions, especially those whose livelihoods are dependent on the sector. This restart must be managed cautiously and responsibly, with public health the primary concern, and making full use of innovation. The WORLD TOURIST IDENTIFICATION app promises to facilitate travel across international borders, promoting trust and building confidence in tourism, essential foundations for the sector’s recovery,” Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General, UNWTO, said.
