Tourist Arrivals Significantly Increase In The Maldives

2021 has been positive for tourism recovery in the Maldives. The nation has recorded a total of 147,744 tourist arrivals between the start of the year and February 17th. In January last year the destination recorded 177,140 visitors. The top source markets for tourist arrivals is Russia followed by India. Other countries that form the top markets include France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Romania, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

 20,161 people have been vaccinated in the Maldives so far

The destination launched its COVID-19 vaccine operation in February and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and first lady, Fazna Ahmed along with other government officials were the first to receive doses of vaccine. 20,161 people have been vaccinated in the Maldives as of February 10. Further, the ministry of tourism has also launched an initiative to vaccinate workers in the tourism sector. This will ensure optimum safety in the industry. 

Currently, 140 resorts and over 330 guesthouses are functional in the Maldives, along with over 135 liveaboards and 11 hotels. 27 airlines are connecting Maldives to the rest of the world at this time. All tourists that arrive at the destination are required to fill an online health declaration form within 24 hours prior to departure and submit a negative Covid-19 PCR test result, conducted a maximum of 96 hours prior to departure to the Maldives.
