The pandemic and its subsequent lockdown has greatly affected the pillars of the tourism industry. Several entrepreneurs and companies have been coming up with projects to revive the economy and restart the tourism sector as quickly as possible.
For eg, online travel company Make My Trip has recently launched ‘myPartner’ platform where offline agents can access the company’s entire hotel inventory. Before kickstarting this platform, MMT conducted a pilot test with 100 agents. As search volumes rise, the company hopes that travel activities also increase by the end of the fiscal year.
How will this new platform on MakeMyTrip help the tourism industry?
Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group CEO, MakeMyTrip, said, “Travel activity volumes, like hotel bookings, attractions, flights, etc. could reach 60-65 percent occupancy levels by end of fiscal. The launch of the vaccine will push the pent up demand. International travel, however, will take some time to recover.”
He also discussed that the platform serves as a collaborative effort between stakeholders to restore the damage done by the pandemic on the tourism sector. “Through our new MyPartner offering, we are very proud to give access to our content and inventory of domestic and international hotels at best prices to travel agents in the country. This will help them in making a faster recovery as travel restrictions are lifted gradually.”
MMT in the past few months, has mobilised funds more than INR 250 crores. They have been making swift prompt plans to address user concerns and make the booking flow seamless and convenient. By participating in travel fairs and exhibitions, the company hopes its platform attracts a large number of travel agents.
