Hotelbeds Launches The Green Hotels Programme To Promote Sustainable Tourism

Hotelbeds, a bedbank that delivers hotel accommodation, excursions, etc.,to travel suppliers across the industry has launched The Green Hotels Programme. This solution aims to lead the company and its partners towards sustainability and a green economy.

This certification will help over 60,000 travel trade partners of Hotelbeds and Bedsonline to identify sustainable hotels. From tour operators to travel agents, this green filter will have details of the certification and offer tags.

Additionally, the company has become an active member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). This council is a global authority when it comes to setting and managing standards for sustainable tourism. To certify the 15,000 properties, the bedbank has followed the criteria of the GSTC for hotels.

The criteria revolves around four main themes. These are effective sustainability planning, maximising social and economic benefits for the local community, enhancing cultural heritage, and minimising negative impacts on the environment.

Gareth Matthews, Marketing, Communications and CSR Director, Hotelbeds said, “This new project responds to the very real demand that already exists amongst many environmentally conscious travellers, and we will provide simple and effective tools for our travel trade clients to make green choices effortlessly, driving and accelerating change.”
