On Thursday, the curtain will come down on Expo 2020 Dubai with a stunning closing ceremony at Al Wasl Plaza that will look to the future.
During the event’s 182 run, almost 20 million people will have visited.
With 20-plus huge screens spanning the Expo 2020 Dubai site, including the major stages, Festival Garden, and other country pavilions, allowing everyone to experience the magic, global music icons Christina Aguilera, Norah Jones, and Yo-Yo Ma will sprinkle stardust on the spectacular setting.
The event will go on into the early hours of the morning, with complete headline concerts from each artist taking place at Jubilee Stage and Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre.
At 19:00 GST, the little Emirati girl from the opening ceremony will take the audience on another amazing journey.
She has developed, learnt, and connected with people from all over the world for 182 days; all that is left is for her to awaken to her full potential.
The audience will also be focused on the next generation, as the expo will invite hundreds of children from across the UAE to witness the wonders as the country celebrates its Golden Jubilee during Expo 2020 Dubai.
Later that evening, Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform at the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre at 20:45 GST, while Norah Jones, a noted Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and pianist, will perform on the Jubilee Stage at 21:00 GST.
From 22:45 GST, pop diva Christina Aguilera will perform an extended set on the Jubilee Stage.
The closing ceremony cast includes more than 400 professionals and volunteers from 56 nations, with 745 costumes made for Expo 2020 Dubai’s conclusion.
The all-women Firdaus Orchestra, headed by Yasmina Sabbah, will join forty members of a UAE-based children’s choir to perform Ishy Bilady, the UAE’s national anthem.
Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, commissioner general of Expo 2020 Dubai, will present the BIE Flag to ambassador Jai-chul Choi, president of the general assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) , who will subsequently offer it to Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai representatives.
The celebration will go on all night, with more jaw-dropping fireworks displays scheduled for midnight and 03:00 GST.
Thursday is likely to be one of Expo 2020 Dubai’s busiest days, so visitors are encouraged to arrive early to take advantage of the site’s entertainment and activities.
