Changi Airport in Singapore to get a new addition – “The Jewel”

Changi Airport in Singapore has been named the world’s best airport for six years in a row. Now a new addition, “the Jewel,” will ensure its place for a seventh year.

Located at the eastern end of Singapore, Changi Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. Over 7,200 flights fly through the airport each week. Upgrades and additions are constantly being added. “The Jewel” is one such complex. It was first suggested by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong back in 2013.

Due to open in 2019, “the Jewel” will connect Terminal 1 to Terminals 2 and 3. However, this massive multi-purpose facility will be so much more than a link between gates. It will house over 300 dining and shopping options, as well as 100 hotel rooms for travellers with long layovers. But, the most impressive features will be its vast gardens built over ten levels.

Layovers at Changi Airport in Singapore will become truly exciting

Housed both below and above ground, “the Jewel” at Changi Airport in Singapore will feature three main areas. The Forest Valley, the Rain Vortex, and the Canopy Park.

The five-storey Forest Valley will have numerous seasonal flower displays as well as a few short trails for walks. Its most impressive feature will be the Rain Vortex. Dubbed the world’s biggest indoor waterfall, it is set to be over 40 meters high.

It will also have viewpoints over the spectacular Rain Vortex and its proposed sound and light shows. Apart from these, the upcoming Canopy Park at the Changi Airport in Singapore will have two sky nets and two separate mazes (one with hedges and one with mirrors).

“The Jewel” is set to open in 2019 and is sure to make any layover at the Changi Airport in Singapore an exciting experience. To find out more about this new addition, visit its official website.
