Since the industry-wide halt in operations last year, Carnival Cruise Line has become the first cruise line to set sail from the Port of Baltimore.

The Carnival Pride has embarked on a seven-day trip to the Bahamas, stopping in Nassau, Freeport, and Half Moon Cay, a private island.

Carnival Cruise Line’s president, Christine Duffy, said, “We are thrilled to be back in Baltimore, providing our guests with the relaxing vacation they have been so patiently waiting for but also supporting the local economy and offering our crew members an opportunity to support their families back home.”

Carnival Cruise Line inaugurated the first year-round cruise programme from Baltimore in 2009, and has since carried over one million passengers, making it the port’s leading cruise line.

“What a great day for the Port of Baltimore. We have waited a long time to welcome back the Carnival Pride to Charm City,” said Port of Baltimore executive director William Doyle.

When Carnival Pride moves to Tampa departures in November, a newer ship, Carnival Legend, will take its place in Baltimore.

Carnival Corporation released a new commitment to make pre-board testing more convenient and accessible for its passengers.

Guests of Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and Seabourn will be able to get pre-cruise Covid-19 viral testing at more than 1,500 convenient Quest Diagnostics patient service centres and retail pharmacy testing locations across the United States.

Regardless of vaccination status, all passengers with the lines must submit a negative Covid-19 viral test taken no more than three days prior to their departure, as well as other health and safety requirements.

Beginning today, all vaccinated guests must produce a negative Covid-19 viral test taken no more than two days before to the cruise departure, per CDC guidelines. (for example, if a cruise leaves on a Saturday, guests should schedule their tests for the Thursday before embarking).

Roger Frizzell, Carnival Corporation’s chief communications officer, commented: “Access to testing continues to play an important role in the restart of our guest operations, and working with Quest simplifies the process for our guests by making it easier to access convenient testing options from a trusted national laboratory provider. These testing protocols are part of our layered approach to safeguarding the health and safety of our guests, crew and the communities we visit.”
