Avelo Airlines announced its launch on April 8, 2021, marking the “first mainline U.S. carrier launch in nearly 15 years.” The ultra-low-cost carrier will officially start its operations out of Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) on April 28, 2021.
This brand-new Houston-based airline has officially launched, offering $19 fares and flights from the Los Angeles area to nearly a dozen cities in the western third of the country.
Avelo Airlines has routes from Burbank to 11 destinations across the U.S., including Santa Rosa, CA (STS); Pasco, WA (PSC); Bozeman, MT (BZN); Phoenix/Mesa, AZ (AZA); Ogden, UT (OGD); Grand Junction, CO (GJT); Medford, OR (MFR); Eugene, OR (EUG); Bend/Redmond, OR (RDM); Arcata/Eureka, CA (ACV); and Redding, CA (RDD).
“After more than 20 years of steadily shrinking consumer choice, the American flying public wants and deserves more options and lower fares,” said Avelo Founder, Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy Levy. “Avelo offers both — along with a refreshingly smooth and convenient experience,” added Levy.
According to Levy, the commercial airline was founded with a mission: “to inspire travel.” And Avelo plans to do so through a “built-from-scratch, customer-centric culture.” Levy comments that the goal isn’t just to save customers money, but also time — “making travel easier so that you do it more often,” he added.
The airline’s fleet includes three 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircrafts that provide fuel-efficient service. It anticipates a fleet of six “next-generation 737 aircraft.” by the end of 2021.
Flights for travel between April 28 and Sept. 15, 2021, are now on sale for only $19 (one way). Fares do not include extras such as checked bags and assigned seats, but these options are available at additional costs.
Apart from its super-low promotional fares, Avelo Airlines offers guests slightly lower baggage fees, with $10 for their first checked bag and $35 for each overhead carry-on bag. Passengers may also purchase early boarding privileges, $95 to bring along a pet, and several seating options, with pre-reserved window and aisle seats starting at $5. The aircraft’s 129 regular seats measure with a 29-inch pitch. The aircraft also has 60 premium seats with 31 to 38 inches of pitch, which can be reserved for $18 each.
